Holy Cross is a modern, unadorned building, without paintings, statues or stained glass. Our dedicated group of quilters have made liturgical banners for each season of the Church year: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Pentecost and Trinity. In addition, they sewed the Holy Cross banner that is used between Holy Cross Day, September 14, and the beginining of Advent. As each season comes around, the appropriate banner is displayed to the left of the altar, and the others move around the east and west walls of the church. You may have noticed that the website banner incorporates the quilt of the season. See all the banners in the photos to the right. Click on the picture for an enlarged view.
The quilters have also made a set of four large quilts incorporating symbols of Women of the Bible, two for the Old Testament and two for the New Testament. Click the link in the box on the right of the screen to read about the details of the symbols chosen and see photos of these quilts.
